Historical Information Gatherers

Short corridor? Long corridor? Extra large site? No worries!

We are able to connect you with the information that is so vital in preparing reports and designs for large, complex projects.  Our clients have included private companies and government agencies working on roads, wind farms, utility lines, mixed use urban developments, pipelines, water resource studies, brownfield redevelopments, bridges, industrial facilities, and railroads.

HIG’s research products are organized for easy use and consistency.  We can organize the research results by address, by parcel or by other client-defined scheme, depending on the data type and site layout.  For example, when you use our GIS-Ready Aerials for your project, you can move through time with a click of the mouse!  You navigate to the desired location within the corridor or larger site area.  From there you can view a series of aerial photographs, usually spanning several decades, of that same location within your larger project area.  This makes reviewing your aerial photographs a breeze!

Research provided by HIG has revealed the presence of wells, tanks, abandoned utility lines, septic systems and sensitive environments within the area of study.  This gave our clients the information needed to best align the corridors to minimize environmental disturbance and to properly budget for the removal or abandonment of the structures that could be encountered during construction.

Examples of HIG’s Experience

  • HIG completed property records review services for over 100 properties in less than a week for an emergency bridge re-construction project in Minneapolis.
  • HIG has created GIS-Ready Aerial Photographs for several wind farm sites in the Midwest.
  • HIG built a GIS interface for a large corridor project in Minnesota that allowed the client to access property shape files, property records, and aerials photographs with a click of the mouse.
  • HIG provided custom aerial photographs for a 60-mile railroad corridor in North Dakota.
  • HIG provided aerial photographs and historical maps for land covering approximately 62,000 acres in Minnesota

Although we have much experience working with corridor and large area projects, each project is unique.  For a price quote, we request that you send us detailed information about your project objectives and the location and dimensions of your project area so we can tailor our research to match your scope and budget.
