Frequently Asked Questions
ORDERING
How do I place an order?
Download the
Order Form. Fill it out with your complete contact and site information, desired services, and options. You may email the form or print and fax it to us using the buttons at the bottom of the page. We request a map be provided with every order to ensure accurate site location including extent. New clients are also asked to provide a Visa or Mastercard for the first project - subsequent orders may be invoiced upon completion. Finally,
HIG emails confirmation for every request we receive. If you submit a request via fax or email and do not receive an Order Comfirmation by email within 24 hours, we likely did not receive it - please give us a call to verify!
Order Form Tips and Tricks!
- Use the "Tab" key to quickly navigate through the fields.
- The "Reset" button doesn't erase your contact info. When requesting multiple sites, you can clear your site information without having to retype the rest!
- Read the pop-up text! Many fields and buttons offer helpful tips and clarifications if you place the mouse pointer over them without clicking.
- In order to use the "Email" button, users need to make sure their Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Reader software is up to date, and that they have a default email client (Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, etc.) set up. If this doesn't work for you, you can always print and fax the form.
- Users with Adobe Acrobat (full version, not Reader) may also save their changes to the .pdf file and email it (hint - enter your name and contact info once before selecting any services, then save the form locally. You'll never have to retype that section again!).
- Save a step - attach your Site Map in the same email message as the order form!
- Need assistance? Call Jim at extension 115, and he'll have you up and running in no time.
Turnaround time - how long does it take to complete an order ?
Within Zone 1, our Standard Turnaround is 5 business days, two rush options are also offered. For Zone 2, most orders are completed within 7-8 business days at most. All digital-format projects are delivered no later than 4pm on their due date (or shipped-by, if hard copy). Orders received after 4pm CST, or on weekends or holidays, rollover to the next business day. Custom and Corridor/Oversized projects may require additional time. Please see the
Price List or contact us for more details.

What happens when my project is completed?
If you have requested digital format, you will receive emailed notification that your project is ready for download. Simply use link provided to download your data (additional instructions are provided in the email notification). Paper Prints, other hard copy, and disk media output are shipped via UPS Ground service, and you will receive automated notification of shipment including the Tracking Number.
Can I make changes after I've placed an order?
Absolutely - we want to be sure you get exactly what you need and understand that the parameters of a project can change rapidly. Please call a researcher and refer to the HIG Project Number in question. You may add new services, cancel services (subject only to the cost of work already completed), change format requested, or upgrade to rush service.
Note: Upgrading to a Rush service is not retroactive, but applies from the date the change is made.

How many photos will I get?
Check out the
Aerial Photography page for details and samples of HIG's aerial photography products. The minimum number of photos provided for any site, nationwide, is five. Nearly all Zone 1 sites will have at least 7-10 or more photos. Photography typically covers the 1930s to present in Zone 1 and 1950s to present in Zone 2.

Do you have coverage for my site?
Yes, we do - nationwide. You never need to worry about receiving just 2 or 3 photos as the result for your aerial photography request - unlike other competitors. City Directory, Map, and Well Data coverage varies and sometimes results are limited, but you can rely on HIG to search all available resources and document the results.
No Coverage? No Way!
What's the story with GIS-Ready Aerials?
Our newest service is designed to meet the increasing demand from tech-savvy assessors and engineers who want more from their historical data. GIS-Ready Aerials includes an entire set of HIG's
Standard Aerial Photography or National Aerial Photography (always at least 5 photos, often 8-10 or more) covering up to 5000' x 7500' (or larger at additional cost). We use three ground control points per image over an orthophoto basemap for best accuracy, and reference to your choice of UTM Zone or State Plane Zone (feet or meters) - please specifiy your choice on the
Order Form. Files are delivered in compact .jpg and .jgw format, named by year of coverage, and include our standard cover sheet for reference. Images are approximately 1m resolution in nearly all cases, and are also CAD compatible. We are also happy to provide
custom GIS services to any specifications required by your project. Have more questions?
